Class Descriptions and Supply Lists
Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine: If you've never used a sewing machine before, this is the class for you. Learn how to thread the machine, fill a bobbin, balance the tension, and sew a straight seam. Create a finished pillowcase while you practice. You can bring your own sewing machine or use one of the machines provided.
Supplies: Three (3) pieces coordinating 100% cotton quilting fabric in the following amounts: Fabric 1 (1yd), Fabric 2 (1/2 yd), Fabric 3 (1/4 yd); all-purpose thread; sewing shears; straight pins; size 11 universal sewing machine needles; sewing machine manual (if you bring your own machine).
What else can your sewing machine do? Learn how to use your machine's settings and presser feet to create beautiful topstitching, finished edges, ruffles, gathers, and pleats. Practice while you create a simple tote bag. You can bring your own sewing machine or use one of the machines provided. (Please note, you must already have a basic knowledge of a sewing machine.)
Supplies: Two (2) pieces 100% cotton quilting fabric in the following amounts: fabric 1 (1 1/2yd), fabric 2 (1/2 yd); all-purpose thread; sewing shears; straight pins; size 11 universal sewing machine needles; sewing machine manual (if you bring your own machine).
Learn to Read a Pattern: Grainlines, tissue patterns, notches and dots. Put all these things together to create a pair of pajama pants. We will also discuss casings, hems, and elastic. You can bring your own sewing machine or use one of the machines provided. (Please note, you must already have a basic knowledge of a sewing machine.)
Supplies: Pattern for pajama pants (elastic waist, with or without drawstring); fabric (amount specified on pattern envolope); 2 yards 1/2 inch wide elastic; all-purpose thread; sewing shears; staight pins; size 11 universal sewing machine needles; sewing machine manual (if you bring your own machine).
Curtains and Pillows! Most curtains and pillows are simple straight seams. Learn the basic formulas and methods for creating cafe curtains, panels, and pillows. You can bring your own sewing machine or use one of the machines provided. (Please note, you must already have a basic knowledge of a sewing machine.)
Supplies: Fabric (1 yd of scrap fabric); graph paper; pencil; ruler; measuring tape; calculator; all-purpose thread; sewing shears; staight pins; size 11 universal sewing machine needles; sewing machine manual (if you bring your own machine).
Basic Applique: Learn to Machine Applique
You can bring your own sewing machine or use one of the machines provided. (Please note, you must already have a basic knowledge of a sewing machine.)
Supplies: 1/2 yard scrap fabric that you be appliquing onto; small fabric scraps in pink, white, mint green, and tan; Heat 'n Bond LITE: all-purpose thread in pink, white, mint green and tan; sewing shears; staight pins; size 11 universal sewing machine needles; freezer paper or tissue paper (about 24 inches long); pencil; sewing machine manual (if you bring your own machine).
